I am so excited to be considered to document your beautiful family and your precious moments! I know how stressful it can be to have your family photographed. I hope this guide will help you relax and enjoy the experience and also offer you a clear vision of what to expect during your session. And as always, please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions that I haven't addressed in this guide. I am here for you! Now let's dive right into it. Below you will find information on the different types of sessions I offer and what you can expect at your session.
Outdoor Family Session
My goal for a family session is to capture your unique relationship. What that means is that I will photograph you interacting with each other naturally. While I may take a few "smile for the camera" type pictures, that is not the bulk of what I offer. I often prompt families to look at one another, smile at each other, laugh together, have a conversation. You can tickle your children, caress their cheeks, hug them close, rub noses together...anything that is going to illicit that natural genuine connection. It might feel awkward at first, but I promise it won't look that way! Just try to relax and have fun with each other. Images with gentle movement and genuine expressions are my goal. I will guide you so that I can capture these types of images. If your children are cranky or shy, simply let them be that way. Sometimes all it takes is a little time for them to warm up to being photographed. If you are stressed, they will pick up on that stress. So try and have fun! We can take breaks and re-group as needed. The first thing people notice about a beautiful photograph is how it makes them FEEL. So think of the story you want to convey and we will work together to capture it! In terms of location for your session, I have a couple spots that I utilize for most of my outdoor sessions. We will talk about the importance of light and how that impacts your photos. For this reason I tend to shoot later in the day when the sun is lower in the sky, thus rendering softer more flattering light. I service the central MA area.
Welcome Baby
I offer two options for capturing your new family... an in-hospital lifestyle newborn session or an in-home one. You pick which one works better for you. A hospital session will take place shortly after birth within the 48 hours that you are in the hospital. I typically schedule these sessions between the hours of 10am-12pm because there is usually plenty of beautiful natural light. During your session I will photograph you interacting with your baby and partner in a natural organic way. I may gently guide you by giving you prompts such as to smell your baby's head, or kiss your baby, or simply to gaze at your baby. I will capture the little details of your baby, such as those tiny hands and feet or those fleeting newborn expressions. I am often asked to photograph mama nursing her baby and I am always delighted to capture this special moment. I also love to photograph skin to skin photos if the mother or father requests. An in-home lifestyle newborn session takes place typically within two weeks of being home with your new baby. I will capture your family in the rooms with the most available natural light. In order for an in-home session to work your home needs plenty of natural light. Natural light is window light. If your home is dark without a lot of natural light then this may not be the best type of session to capture your family. One thing to keep in mind if you are booking an in-home session is that clutter around your home will be distracting. It's a good idea to keep clutter to a minimum in the rooms we will be utilizing. Ask yourself "do these objects help tell our family story?' If the answer is yes, then don't stress about cleaning it up. Your home doesn't have to be immaculate. I know mine isn't! We can simply hide clutter on the other side of the room if need be.
